Nazmi brings more than 30 years of experience in non-invasive cardiology, with a distinguished career dedicated primarily to echocardiography. Over the past three decades, he has played a pivotal role in the education and mentorship of cardiology residents at both the University of Toronto and the University of Calgary, teaching and coaching more than 104 trainees. His influence has been significant, with more than half of these residents choosing echocardiography as their primary clinical specialty.

During his tenure at St. Michael's Hospital, University of Toronto, Nazmi served as Chief and Senior Echocardiography Laboratory Technologist under the leadership of Dr. Hutchison. Together, they achieved several historic milestones, including the implementation of Canada's first fully digital echocardiography laboratory and the country's first Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC, formerly ICAEL) accreditation for an echocardiography laboratory—the highest standard of quality in echocardiography. Under their leadership, the St. Michael's Echo Lab also became one of Ontario's most sought-after training centers for echocardiography.

Committed to lifelong learning and clinical excellence, Nazmi has attended more than 20 advanced echocardiography conferences at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, internationally recognized as a leader in cardiovascular imaging. Through these experiences, he developed lasting professional relationships with Mayo Clinic faculty and presented at their educational meetings, further strengthening his expertise in echocardiography and clinical practice.

Nazmi is a registered sonographer with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and is among the very few—if not the only—echocardiography technologists in Canada to be named an Associate of the American College of Cardiology (AACC), a distinction that reflects his exceptional contributions to the field.

Despite his many accomplishments, Nazmi remains humble and dedicated to serving patients, advancing education, and supporting the next generation of cardiovascular professionals.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Nazmi is fluent in seven languages. His exceptional language skills previously led him to serve as a translator within both the provincial and federal court systems, further reflecting his ability to communicate effectively across diverse communities.
