Ela brings more than 20 years of experience in echocardiography, having built an outstanding career at Foothills Medical Centre, one of the busiest tertiary care echocardiography laboratories in Southern Alberta. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care, technical expertise, and professionalism. According to Dr. Hutchison, Ela and Nazmi consistently distinguished themselves among their peers for both their clinical skills and their dedication to the profession. He also regarded them as exceptional educators, whose commitment to teaching and mentoring was deeply valued.

Prior to specializing in echocardiography, Ela spent more than a decade conducting research at the University of Calgary, contributing to studies in diabetes and cardiac arrhythmias. This strong research background complements her extensive clinical experience and evidence-based approach to patient care.

Ela is certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), reflecting her commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards in cardiovascular imaging.

As Dr. Hutchison has often remarked, having Ela as the echocardiography technologist on call while he was attending physician in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit at Foothills Medical Centre was always a tremendous asset, reflecting the confidence placed in her skills during the most critical patient situations.

Outside of her professional career, Ela is an accomplished endurance athlete with a passion for adventure. She has completed challenging hiking expeditions, including the historic Chilkoot Trail and numerous routes throughout the Canadian Rockies, and successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. An avid long-distance cyclist, she has ridden extensively through South Africa, East Africa, New Zealand, and Vietnam. In 2024, she completed an extraordinary cycling journey from Calgary to Yuma, Arizona—a remarkable achievement she characteristically spoke of with humility. Her dedication, perseverance, and quiet determination in athletics mirror the qualities she brings to her work every day.
